 2018 Preview 


       R.A. Hubbard finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year R.A. Hubbard finished sixth in Class 1A region seven with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Chiefs lost as many games as in any season since 1977.

       R.A. Hubbard was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Chiefs want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.5 points a game.

       Since 2010, R.A. Hubbard has gone a combined 49-42. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 1A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, R.A. Hubbard has managed to compile a record of 176-109. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 1A and 73rd in the AHSAA.




       The Chiefs are led by head coach Mac Hampton who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at R.A. Hubbard. The Chiefs have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hampton.

       Coach Hampton's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 2-8 (20.0%).

       The R.A. Hubbard Chiefs will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2018 season.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Chiefs if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. After just 2 wins last year, R.A. Hubbard will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

       The Chiefs open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Cherokee on Thursday, August 23 at R.A. Hubbard Stadium. Last year the Cherokee Indians finished with an overall record of 9-4 and in second place in Class 1A region eight. The Indians lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Pickens County by a score of 37-8.

       R.A. Hubbard and Cherokee have met a total of 16 times on the football field. The Chiefs have a 9-6-1 record against the Indians. They last met in 2017 with Cherokee winning by a score of 34-8.
